WINER YOUTH ART
"Chemical Imbalance" by Anya
Paintings of some mentally ill characters that I resonate with personally, capturing their raw emotions through the demanding gaze.

HIGHLY COMMENDED YOUTH ART
"Trutina" by Imogen Maskell
This is the 2nd picture in a series of 3, this is named Trutina because it means ‘balance’ or ‘scale’ in Latin. The name ties into my intended meaning of the juxtaposition in life with things like spirituality, religion and science and the fact that many things aren’t easily balanced like our brain and heart ( Melanie Martinez reference (: heheh ) despite the importance those things are to the world.

"Asian Dragon Totem" by Glenbrook Centre
In Visual Arts, we studied the topic 'History Revisited' involving ideas of appropriation. We explored the Dragon totem/animal/mythical creature in different cultures, in terms of its meanings and symbolism. Reading about the ideas of an animal totem and how it can be a resource in one's life and collectively to provide connection, resilience and emotional, mental and spiritual guidance. The artwork is an expression of how the Dragon totem in Asia, is a positive affirmative symbol, the students all made a contribution including Cain Anderson, Lilibeth Ashton, Emma Gardner, Kendra Jones, Keira Holtom, Matt Lewis, Cohen Misztal, Ethan Pryce, Jeremy O'Sullivan Pooley and Ella Rubelj. We recognised through the materials and techniques used, some of the sensory elements of nature such as Wind (blowing the paint through a straw) which is a part of the totems symbolism and energy. On our Journey we discovered that there is a living 'local miniature lizard called Mountain Dragon'- Rankinia Diemensis here in the Blue Mountains bushland.

"I Am The Cabin" by Scarlett Ivy
I am Scarlett Donovan and I am the cabin. The first landscape art piece I created in 2022 which is not a part of this triptych, I hated, so I hid away somewhere. About a year and a half later I found and looked at it again and I loved it. It made me realise how critical I was to myself, about myself and even to the thing around myself in 2022. Since then I’ve noticed how much I’ve changed and grown as a person. So throughout 2024 this year I’ve worked on these paintings in this triptych which tell a story about me (the cabin) and how much I’ve grown into myself. About how thing will get better, life is constant change and how it doesn’t take much for someone to be so doubtful and that only your own thoughts can make a person feel so small.
